Natural Bridges State Park, Santa Cruz CA

A swarm of Monarch butterflies. Taking sanctuary in Santa Cruz.

2021 looks like a good year for the population of Monarch butterflies. After a decline in numbers the past couple of years, these beauties showed up in greater numbers this year. Giving hope that they are species is hanging in there.

For this image I took a field trip to Santa Cruz’ Natural Bridges State Park, where a Monarch sanctuary has been set aside for these delicate fliers. Well, they may look delicate, but in fact are known to migrate nearly 5000 miles from Mexico to California.

I also treated myself to a new lens. The Canon EF 24-105mm f/4L IS II, is on my wish list. It costs around $1,000.00 retail, so I rented it for a week from BorrowLenses.com for about 40 bucks. I was mostly pleased with the results. My only reservation about the images were not in regards to the lens, but rather with the operator.
